Angela’s House

Life Skills Training, Inspiration, and Resource Center for Nevada’s Visually Impaired

Blindness can be a frightening, isolating experience. But it doesn’t need to be. With Blindconnect anyone who is visually impaired or blind doesn’t have to face the challenges life has for them by themselves.

Angela's House is the only facility specifically designed to offer life skills training, resources, and peer support in Nevada.

It is a place where those with severe vision loss can learn the skills to increase self-confidence, self-sufficiency, and a sense of purpose.

The vision of Angela’s House is to create and establish a Nevada person-centered training facility for the blind and visually impaired to prepare individuals and families to live independently with access to services, education, and recreation.

Angela’s House is located inside an innovative 14,0000+ square foot RTC’s Mobility Training Center.

Being at the Center is like being on a movie set with streets and, buildings, and even a bus that can circulate around the facility. The over

all experience helps visual impaired people test their skills before venturing into the larger community. Of course our programs train them first.

Angela’s House includes a great room/dining room, kitchen, washroom, bedroom, technology lab, and bathroom. The center is fully equipped as a working home so that skills are transferable to any home setting.

Personalized instruction for participants focuses on individualized challenges and needs.

Skills include daily living (cooking, cleaning, money and house management), orientation and mobility (cane travel training), technology (learning accessible computer and applications to make life easier), personal care, communication, and advocacy, coping and adjustment, and Braille.

When Angela lost her usable vision in 2000, she realized there were limited services in Nevada. Taking the initiative she committed her efforts to improve psychological and rehabilitative blindness services.

Her legacy is Angela's House.

The facility is located at 5165 W. Sunset Road at Decatur Boulevard.
